Josephine Cooper

Elon-Josephine Perez Cooper age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2015 at Liberty Commons. She was born in Puerto Rico, USA to the late Pablo Perez and Natividad Hernandez Perez. Josephine retired from the Department of Social Services, Roosevelt Hospital in New York, New York. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where she served as a Euchratic minister. She was a member of the Sacred heart Society of New York and a member of the Parrish council. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her sons, Rommie Smith and wife, Carol of Burlington, Israel Velez and wife, Mariela of Clemmons and Henry Velez and wife Fazia of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; daughter-in-law, Judy Smith of Burlington; grandchildren, Jeff Olen Smith, Richard Olen Smith, Carolyn Tracy Perkins, Jamie Ferguson, Jasmine Velez, Yazmeen Velez and Melissa Velez; great grandchildren, Darla Smith, Hannah Perkins, Colman Ferguson, Winston Ferguson, Luke Colton Perkins and Jeremy Smith. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Olen James Smith who died in 1964, Israel Velez, Sr. and Sylvan Jack Cooper who died in 1992; son, Jimmy Olen Smith; grandson, Jonathan Olen Smith; great grandson, Francis Gabriel Velez; parents and a brother, Pablo Juan Perez. Josephine's family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Liberty Commons and Liberty Hospice for their kind and compassionate care for their mom. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Rev. Briant Cullinane, OFM, Conv. And the burial will follow at Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery. A reception and visitation will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2015 from 2-4 pm at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
