Burlington-Joseph "Joe" Albert Walters, age 78 went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 13, 2015. He was a native of Surry County and the husband of the late Ella Rae Lowder Walters. Joe retired from Lucent/Acutel formerly Western Electric and was a tobacco famer for many years in the community. He was a member of Lakeview Community Church where he served as a deacon for many years. Joe was a veteran of the US Army serving during peacetime in Korea. He will be remembered for his lemon pies that he baked for shut-ins, friends and family. Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his daughter, Amy Blackwood and husband, Derek of Burlington; son, Joey Walters of Burlington; grandchildren, Seaton, Mason and Kolby Blackwood, Logan and Maggie Walters; sisters, Rachel Welch and husband, Ray of Greensboro and Mary Roach and husband, Bobby of Burlington; brother, Paul Walters and wife, Opal of Norwood, NC and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, Arlys Granville and Gladys Key Walters. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, February 16, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Reid Dickens and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials may be made to Faith Christian Church, P O Box 1731, Burlington, NC 27216.
