Joseph "Joe" William Tomb, 87, of 914 Tucker St. went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Inwood Long Island, New York to the late Matthew William and Myrtle Esther Player Tomb and was married for 64 years to Mary Ellen Farthing Tomb, who survives. He was a former employee of Western Electric and was a member of People's Memorial Christian Church. Joe was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, a life member of VFW and Alamance County Rescue. He is survived by his wife of the home, children, Patricia Boggs of Burlington, Mark Tomb of Burlington, Sandra Kirk Horne of Graham and David Nita Tomb of Burlington; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph William Tomb, Jr., his parents and a sister, Joan Theis. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at People's Memorial Christian Church by Rev. John Shields with interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
