Joe Pryor, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Elon, NC, surrounded by his family, on Friday, October 15, 2021. He was born in Utica, NY to the late James Houston Pryor and Loretta Welch Pryor. Joe is survived by his wife, of 50 years, Karen Elizabeth Clyne Pryor.
Joe was a U.S. Navy veteran who served aboard the USS Tolovana, during the Vietnam War. After leaving the Navy, he worked for Delta Airlines for 23 years, making friends along the way in airports in Ft Lauderdale, FL, Worcester, MA, Greensboro, NC, and Syracuse, NY. He was a member of the Atomic Veterans Association and American Legion Post 223 in Clinton, NY and Post 63 in Burlington, NC. After retiring from Delta, Joe worked for himself restoring and repairing antique furniture. In addition, he loved traveling, gardening and was a lifetime Boston Red Sox fan. Joe’s warm heart, blue eyes, and quick smile invited friendships throughout his life and travels. He will be missed dearly by all his friends and family.
Joe is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Lisa Pryor Sunshine (Ken) of High Point and grandchildren Joseph, Thomas and Kate; son, Dan Pryor of San Diego, CA and granddaughter Dottie; and son Tom Pryor (Shannon) of Haw River and grandchildren, Nolan and Garrett. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Anne Marie Pryor Imhoff.
Visitation hours will be at Lowe Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 5:30-7:30 PM. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Lowe Funeral Chapel with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service.
