Joseph Nystrom

Joseph Gary Nystrom, age 24, of Durham, passed away suddenly on Saturday, October
21 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Maryland.
Born in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Martin G. Nystrom and Jennifer Funkhouser Nystrom. Joseph graduated Eastern Alamance High School in 2012 and played on the Soccer and Lacrosse teams. Joseph previously attended UNC Charlotte, and grew up as part of the Grace Reformed Baptist Church family. Joseph had a passion for sports, both as a competitor and spectator; in his college years, he enjoyed disc golf and snowboarding. Animals loved Joseph; he frequently found immediate bond with pets, especially his beloved Golden Retriever Sofie. Joseph was known to all by his welcoming and accepting smile, and his friends knew him as their encourager and support through the challenges of life.
Joseph is survived by his parents of Mebane, his sister Hannah of Raleigh, brother Luke and wife, Caitlin, of Ann Arbor, MI, and sister Grace of Mebane; grandparents, Gary and Julie Funkhouser of Treynor, IA and Jean Lane of W. Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Roger Lane.
A service to celebrate Joseph's life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 28, at Grace Reformed Baptist Church in Mebane, NC. Interment will follow at Hawfields Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday evening at the church.
