Burlington, NC Joseph Ralph Humphries, Sr., age 78, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Hospice home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Randolph County and the husband of 54 years to Bernease Wilson Humphries who survives. Ralph retied after 25 years with GE in Mebane and was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Belmont Baptist Church where he had served as an usher. During the summer he mowed yards in the community for senior citizens and he was a talented auto mechanic. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Bernease Wilson Humphries of the home; daughter, Amy H. Miles and her husband, Scott of Snow Camp; sons, Ronald Humphries and his wife, Caroll of Brown Summit, Kenneth Humphries and his wife, Barbara of Alamance; three grandchildren; four step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren and one step great, great grandchild; his twin brother, Charlie "Roger" Humphries and his wife, Katie of Burlington and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lenora Gail Humphries and a son, Joseph "Joe" Ralph Humphries, Jr.; parents, Charlie Cooper Humphries and Nora Layne Humphries; step mother, Clyde Cockerham Humphries; sister, Jane Folson and a half sister, Marie Chandler. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Belmont Baptist Church by Rev. Larry Janey and Rev. Carlton Wilson and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park with military honors provided by the US Navy. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
