Mr. Johnny Mack Ward, age 87, of Elon, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024 at his residence after several months of failing health.
Born in Alamance County, he was the son of the late Mitchell McMillian “Mack” Ward and the late Virginia Corn Ward Wheeler and was married for 67 years to Mrs. Shirley Alcon Ward, who survives. He retired after many years of employment with Burlington Industries, working at the Mayfair, Pioneer and Williamsburg Plants. Johnny was a longtime and active member of Bethlehem Christian Church, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher, was on the Board of Christian Education, and involved in the Men’s Fellowship and the church choir. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Ward is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Alicia W. Petty (Troy) and Christine W. Apple (Donald); four grandchildren, Timothy Petty (Kimberly), Shanon Petty, Sarah Apple and Philip Apple; seven great grandchildren, Makayla Eastwood (Ty), Hailey Williamson, Cameran Williamson, Kensley Williamson, Victoria Petty, Claire Petty and Jack Petty; and a brother, Jimmy Randolph Ward (Martha).
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Alamance Memorial Park by Pastor Jason Simmons. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the residence. Mr. Ward will be available for public viewing from 12:00 – 5:00 PM Tuesday afternoon at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the giver’s choice.
