Johnny Clifton Simmons

June 23, 1943 — September 11, 2024

Burlington, NC

Johnny Clifton Simmons, age 81, departed this life unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Born as the ninth of 10 children to the late Porter Gold Simmons and late Minnie Alice Terrell Simmons, he lived his entire life in the Anderson community of Caswell County.

He was a meek, humble and kind hearted man with a love for photography and music. He operated his own photography studio, aptly named Simmons Studio, from his home in the late 1970s. Even in his later years he carried a camera with him everywhere he went, photographing his friends and the scenery he enjoyed. He enjoyed playing the guitar, with his favorite music being country, western, and trucking songs. He had an extensive collection of record albums from the 60’s and 70’s. Clifton or "JC" as he was known to his friends had a 35+ year career as a truck driver with the Kaiser-Roth Corporation. He loved his Gold Toe socks and made sure that everyone in his family had an ample supply.

During one of his delivery runs to the mountains of North Carolina, he met Jewel Connors, who became his wife in June 1985. Their marriage lasted 27 years until her death from ovarian cancer in 2013.

Clifton had an entrepreneurial spirit and started several other small businesses from his home, from which his family benefited from his overstock. He was generous to a fault, donating to several charities, and always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed his meals with his friends at the Three Points Grill in Anderson and Skid's Drive-In in Burlington.

Along with his parents and his wife, Clifton was preceded in death by his six sisters, Dorothy Herndon, Claudia Clayton, Alice Harrison, Elsie Overman, Leona Miles, and Mildred Davis; and by one brother, Billy Simmons. He is survived by his brothers, James "Jimmy" Simmons (Cheryl) and Gilbert Simmons (Ann), both of the Anderson community; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Jason Simmons. The family will receive friends from 2:30 – 4:00 PM Saturday afternoon at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home of his brother, Gilbert Simmons.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to your charity of choice is appreciated.

You may send condolences and sign the online register at www.lowefuneralhome.com.
