Johnny Evan Page, age 58, of 1341 Pagetown Road died suddenly on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Johnny was born on January 28, 1948 and he lived most of his life in Caswell County. He was the first child of Howard Monroe and Mildred Pender Page and he grew up in the Pagetown Community of Caswell, surrounded by his paternal grandparents and other family members. He developed his trademark grin as a young boy and was always surrounded by friends. Johnny graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School in 1966 and then served his country in the US Army as a Military Policeman in Vietnam during the war. Upon his return, he graduated from Rockingham Community College with an associate degree in Business Administration. His careers were varied working for the First National Bank in Reidsville and then retiring after 20 years with the Lowes Companies in Contractor Sales. In recent years he became the man the neighborhood could call on for help. Johnnys favorite pastime was music, he was lovingly taught to play the guitar by his mother when he was young, and melodies were consistent throughout his life. Johnny loved to play and sing with his friends. Johnny didnt just live -he lived life to its fullest whether riding his Harley-Davidson on a warm Sunday afternoon or his tractor around his carefully tended land or spending time with his beloved dogs at his workshop. He lived simply, but most importantly, he lived with joy, embracing everyone around him and seeing the good in everyone. He was caring, always willing to help, generous with his time and his laugh and his wisdom. No written words can express how he could light up a room, just by entering it. Johnny was the eternal optimist! Johnny is survived by his wife, Mary James Smith of the home; step son, James Anthony Smith also of the home; parents, Howard Monroe and Mildred Pender Page of Elon; sister and her partner, Patricia Kelly and Rick Mitchell of Apex; sister and brother-in-law, Angela Page Hurley and Linney Hurley of Apex; nephew, Brian Isley of Graham; many wonderful friends who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 26, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Darrell Massey. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at his residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you to plant a tree in Johnnys memory.
