Gibsonville – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Johnny Allen McKinney, who left us peacefully on February 9, 2025, just three days before he would have celebrated his 74th birthday. Born on February 12, 1951, Alamance County to the late William Empson and Alma Naomi Clayton McKinney, Johnny was a devoted husband to Hilda Kernodle McKinney for an incredible 51½ years.
Johnny made a lasting impact during his 37½ years as a salesman with Burlington Lincoln Mercury, Burlington Honda and Bill Ingold Mazda. He was not just a dedicated worker; he was a proud member of Altamahaw Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Johnny was active in various committees at the church, leaving an imprint on the lives he touched. His love for the outdoors showed through his time spent working in the yard, his carpentry skills and cheering passionately as an avid Duke fan.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Hilda, and cherished sons, Jason McKinney and wife Ragen, and Jeffrey McKinney and wife Alix. He adored his grandchildren, Michael John, Cooper, Eli, Wyatt, and Duke, who brought him immense joy. Johnny is also survived by his sister, Janet Mair and husband Scott; nieces, Katie Mair and Alli Adams and husband Blake; as well as his precious great-nieces, Livi and Lila Adams. He held dear the love of his church family and numerous friends who meant so much to him. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Bradley Mair.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Johnny’s caregivers, Audrey and Sheena, for their warmth and compassion during his illness, as well as to the staff at White Oak Manor for their exceptional care and support.
A memorial service to celebrate Johnny's rich life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Altamahaw Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Walter Jones. The family invites everyone to join them in remembering Johnny's life and legacy during this time. They will receive friends following the service and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Altamahaw Baptist Church, located at 3445 Altamahaw Church Street, Elon, NC 27244. Condolences can be shared at www.lowefuneralhome.com
