John Wilson

John F. Wilson, age 73, of Westbrook Dr., passed away Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. A native of Evergreen, AL, he was the husband of Gene Bridgers Wilson and son of the late George Robert and Mineola Foshee Wilson. John was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church, where he sang in the church choir and was Cub Master and Assistant Scout Master for Cub and Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Alamance Kennel Club and an Amateur Radio operator. In 1960 he graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree and was a Eta Kappa Nu in Electrical Engineering, Pi Mu Epsilon, Mathematics, Scabbard and Blade, ROTC and Auburn University Band. In 1966, he graduated from Lehigh University with a Master of Science Industrial Engineering degree. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the US Army Signal Corps as a ROTC graduate. After serving active duty and active reserve and inactive reserve, he was discharged with the rank of Captain. Mr. Wilson retired from Lucent Technologies, formerly AT&T, with 35 years of service. During those years he was Senior Development Engineer for Thor-Agena and Titan IIIB Air Force programs and Nike Hercules Missile System. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Gene Bridgers Wilson of the home; son, Scott Bridgers Wilson of Greensboro; daughter, Nancy Elaine Wilson-Smith and husband, Jeffrey of Washington, DC; brother, Purry Ogsburn Wilson; sister-in-law Elvira "Vera" G. Wilson and nephew, Tomas Wilson all of Kingman, AZ. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 3, 2010 from the Front Street United Methodist Church by Rev. Ben Alexander and Dr. William C. Simpson, Jr. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Mr. Wilson will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church for services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30-8:30pm Tuesday and at other times, the home.
