John Taylor

Burlington, NC John Michael Taylor of Edgewood Avenue formerly of Woodridge Road passed away on Monday, July 23, 2012 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family following his 87th birthday. He was a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the husband of 60 years to the late Ann Walsh Taylor. John was the longtime operations manager of Westvaco/Mead Corp's Burlington textile packaging division. He was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and former boy scout leader. John was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and the Men of Malvern in Pennsylvania. John graduated from the famous Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia, PA. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre and received a purple heart in combat as well as the silver and bronze star. After returning home from service he pursued his undergraduate studies at Temple University on the G I Bill before turning his attention to raising a family. In his later years he enjoyed sharing his military experiences and his life experiences with young people at area schools and universities. Furthermore, he shares membership in Delta Upsilon Fraternity with his sons, grandsons and son-in-law. Survivors include his children, John X. Taylor and his wife, Sherry of Nashville, TN, Marianne Taylor-Hicks of Burlington, Donna Taylor Richards and her husband, Rick of Gibsonville, Richard X. Taylor and his wife, Terri of Charlotte, Terry Taylor Young and her husband, Dana of Nashville, TN and Paul X. Taylor and his wife, Michelle of Burlington, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brother, Richard Taylor of Cornwell Heights, PA and a sister, Mary Mills of Lancaster, PA, nieces Lori Schonewolf and Valerie Rulon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Walsh Taylor and parents, Richard and Winifred Carrigan Taylor; nieces, Mary Jo and Mary Kay Taylor. The Taylor family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of their father over the past months. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Reverend Briant Cullinane OFM Conv. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:30 pm on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park with military honors provided by the 82nd Airborne Division. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
