John Smith

John Robert "Jack" Smith, 88, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several months of failing health. He was born in Caswell County to the late Elijah Floyd Smith and the late Eva Moore Smith and was the husband to Clara Lee Pleasant Smith who died in December 2013. Jack retired from Burlington Industries after 37 years of service and was a member of The Lamb's Chapel. Jack enjoyed cooking for family and friends, loved gardening and fishing. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Tim Hudson of Haw River, Pam and Paul Smart of Mebane, Carolyn Smith and friend Cynthia Livengood of Greensboro; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Margot Smith of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren and spouses, Jennifer and Matt Weisner, Jessica and Kenneth Surles, Mallory Smith and Rob Smith; great grandchildren, Mackenna and Hudson Weisner; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Surber, Ruth and Junior McCann; brother, Howard M. Smith; brother-in-law, W.S. Pleasant and wife, Carol. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brothers, Bill Smith, Frank Smith and Fred Smith. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. James Rosser with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm and other times at the home. The family would like to extend a loving "Thank You" to Katie, Phyllis, Tara and Felicia for their help in caring for their daddy. You are all wonderful ladies who meant a lot to our daddy and you will always hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you for everything. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or to the charity of ones choice.
