John Sanford Sherman, 86, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after one year of declining health. He was born in Washington County, NY to the late Richard B. Sherman and the late Charlotte Ruggles Sherman and was the husband to Muriel Baker Sherman of 59 years who survives. He retired as a Senior Visual Information Specialist with the U.S. Department of Navy. John was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Burlington and was a US Army veteran that served in the Korean War. He enjoyed wood carving as a hobby that he started after his retirement. Survivors other than his wife, Muriel, include his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Sandra Sherman; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard M. Sherman. The celebration of life service will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 6, 2015 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Norman Whitney and Rev. William Sharpe. The family will receive friends from 9:30am to 10:45am prior to the service and other times at the home.
