John Routten

Elon-John Medwin Routten, 71, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of 50 years to Janet Beall Routten who survives.
John was employed for many years with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and was an entrepreneur of his own business for many years. He also in recent years was a logistic coordinator for Lowes and Talberts. John was a member of Concord Christian Church. He was in the first graduating class of Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, VA in1965. He was a Captain in the US Army and served in the Vietnam War with the Combat Engineers. John enjoyed metal working, fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Beall Routten of the home; son, John Tyler Routten of Fuquay-Varina; grandchildren, Holli Brynne Routten and Bryce Caden Routten; brothers, William L. and wife, Linda M. Routten and Richard Routten of all of Hampton,VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Eugene and Shirley Inez Walker Routten.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Concord Christian Church by Rev. Darrell Massey. The US Army along with the Marine Corp League will provide military honors at the graveside. The family will receive friends following the committal service in the church fellowship hall.
