On August 12, 2006, John Wayne Robinson of Burlington, NC passed away after a long courageous battle with lung cancer. John is preceded in death by his parents Edward Robinson and Ruth Faires Wensil, one sister, Joyce Mannering, one brother, Doug Robinson and one son, George Wayne Robinson and his friend, Keesha. John was born in Rock Hill, SC and later moved to Washington, DC where he met and married his wonderful wife of 46 years, Dorothy Brown Robinson. John proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for 3 years. After leaving the military, John was employed by IBM in Washington, DC, and Owego, NY. John worked for IBM for 32 years before retiring in 1993. John was very active in umpiring baseball and softball and officiating high school football in Maryland, New York and North Carolina before he could no longer physically do it. John was a very avid Washington Redskins fan. John worked for Wal-Mart from April 1997 until Jan 2006. John is survived by his wife Dorothy, five children Maureen Robinson of Chicago, IL; Eileen DeMartine & Brian Indorato of Burlington, NC; Michael Robinson and Rowena Rivera of Virginia Beach, VA; Elizabeth & Mark Dvorsky of Stokesdale, NC and Kathleen & Brent George of Silverton, Oregon; 8 special grandchildren-John Michael Robinson of Burlington, NC; Alex, Emma, and Victoria Robinson all of Biloxi, MS; Stephanie and Mark Stephen Dvorsky of Stokesdale, NC; Owen and Shauna George of Oregon, 1 great grandson Zachary Robinson, 2 brothers, Bill Robinson of SC, and Miles Robinson of W. VA., his special friend at home Cole, and numerous friends and relatives in Maryland, New York, and NC. The Robinson Family wishes to thank Dr. Janak Choksi and his staff, the staff of 1C at Alamance Regional Medical Center, and Hospice of Alamance County. The family will receive friends 7-9 PM Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and then Mr. Robinson will be taken to Maryland for his funeral and burial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Johns memory to the Blessed Sacrament Building Fund 408 West Davis St., Burlington, NC 27215. John will be sadly missed by all that knew him, for any one that knew him knows that he was a kind, gentle, patient and generous man who would do anything in his power to help anyone that needed it.
