John Reichard

John "Jack" M. Reichard, 89, of Burlington, NC, died December 5 at the Wade Coble Healthcare Unit of Twin Lakes. Jack was born April 18, 1920 in Pittsburgh, PA. He served in World War II as a flying officer, with the rank of captain, in the U.S. Air Corps. After the war, he obtained a BA from Susquehanna University and did masters work at New York University. He spent most of his business career as a consultant in accounting systems and procedures. Jack was especially proud of the two plus years he spent as a management consultant for the government of Puerto Rico. While there, he also taught in the graduate school of business at the University of Puerto Rico. Jack's hobbies were gardening specializing in gladiolus, acrylic painting, and volunteering at Alamance Regional Hospital. He served as a docent at the Alamance Historical Museum and was a member of the Men's Garden Club of Burlington and Friends of Library Board. Jack also taught landscaping at Wake Technical Community College and was superintendent of the flower garden area of the North Carolina State Fair in 1989. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of almost 64 years, Ruth E. Reichard and his sister, Marian Pooley. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Tom Allred of Clemmons, NC. Survivors also include two step-grandchildren, Wes Allred and his wife, Amy, of Greensboro, NC, and Debbie Heidenis and her husband, Steve, of West Hartford, CT. Debbie and Steve have two children, Jack's great-grandchildren, Lauren and Thomson. A memorial service will be held at Low's Lutheran Church in Liberty, NC, on Thursday, December 10 at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Dr. David M. Mielke officiating. The family will meet with friends in the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Low's Lutheran Church c/o the Jack Reichard Beautification Fund, 2136 NC Hwy 61, Liberty, NC 27298.
