John Powell, Sr.

John Ray Powell, Sr. 64, of Oak Creek, Burlington went home to be with the Lord on December 7, 2010 after three years of failing health. A native of Burlington he was the son of O.D. Powell, Sr. and Alley Mae Stevenson Powell both deceased. He was retired from the ABC Board of Burlington after many years of service. Survivors include one brother O.D. Powell, Jr. and wife Nancy of Burlington. A special niece Donna Kay Powell of Burlington and nephew Donald Ray Powell and wife Debbie and grand nephew Morgan Powell. Also, his extended family Beverly Calhoun and his wife Linda of Greensboro, Patricia Comer and husband David, Teresa Willard of Kernersville, Sarah Tuttle and husband Craig of Winston Salem and their families as his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son John Ray Powell, Jr. and his special friend of 29 years Janet B. Calhoun. There will be a service 2:00 PM Friday at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum by Rev. Pete Kunkle. The family will receive friends 12:30 1:30 PM Friday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. and other times at the home of his brother1918 Whitsett St. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 5216, Green Allen, VA 23058-5216 or the American Diabetes Association, 222 S.
