McLeansville - John Porter Paisley, Sr., age 90, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at his home in McLeansville, North Carolina.
John was born in Rowan County to the late Porter and Elsie Andrew Paisley. He married his childhood sweetheart, Eula Mae Kiger on June 14, 1947. John and Eula were the definition of marriage; loving and dedicated to each other, and their family, for 65 years prior to Eula’s death in 2012.
John was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He was an avid water skier, sports fan and athlete. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians out of high school. He worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company and later as a long-distance truck driver for Glenn Raven Mills until his retirement. Being a man whom never met a stranger, after retirement John ad Eula expanded their large circle of friends and spent many warm, happy winters together in Sarasota, Florida. He dedicated his life to his family, friends, and his church, Bethel Presbyterian Church.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eula and their son, Robert Thomas Paisley. He is survived and missed by his loving family, his sons, John Porter Paisley, Jr. and wife Joyce Aldret Paisley of Burlington and Ronald James Paisley and wife Kathy Kennedy Paisley of McLeansville. John leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Janet Paisley-Terry of Swansboro, Susan Hedrick or Burlington, John Paisley III of Gemert, Netherlands, Michelle Dyals of Dacula, GA, Laura Simons of Whitsett and Beth Paisley of Albuquerque, NM, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren all of whom will miss his kindness, compassion, and deep sense of humor. Though his grandchildren’s families are spread across multiple states and countries, they never missed a chance to hear a story or joke from their Poppop, who always lit up a room.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Bethel Presbyterian Church by Rev. Paul Rhodes and Rev. Sue Flippin. Acting as pallbearers are Charles Johnson, Don Kiger, Steve Hankins, Mike Forrest, Dean Kiger, and Holt Alcon. Interment will follow in the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Mr. Paisley will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until being taken to the church for services. His family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home, S Church St. Burlington, NC from 6pm until 8pm Friday, March 15, 2019.
Memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, 300 Knox Rd, McLeansville, NC 27301. You may sign the online register book at www.lowefuneralhome.com.
