John Oliver

John Thomas "Tom" Oliver, age 88, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at his home. He was a native of Caswell County and the husband of 64 years to Ann Busick Oliver who survives. Tom was a member of Apple's Chapel Christian Church for over 60 years where he served as a deacon and was a faithful member of the men's chorus as well as the adult choir. He was employed for 20 years with Flav-ORich Dairies and later worked for the Burlington City School System. Tom was also a paint contractor and a US Army Aircorps veteran serving in WW II. He was a loving and devoted husband, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife of the home, Ann Busick Oliver; daughter, Nelda Robbins and her husband, Don of Browns Summit; a son, Tommy V. Oliver and his wife, Becky of Gibsonville; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brothers, Vance Oliver and his wife, Dora of Gibsonville; sisters, Matilda Frazier and her husband, William of Elon, Mary Jobe and her husband, Gurley of Gibsonville and Barbara Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas and Henrietta Bradner Oliver; brothers, Wilson, Bradner and Roy Oliver; sisters, Nancy Smith and Martha Key. A service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Apple's Chapel Christian Church by Rev. C. Allen Myers, III and Rev. Dace Lewis with the burial to follow at Apple's Chapel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the interment in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Apple's Chapel Christian Church, 7345 NC 61 N., Gibsonville, NC 27249.
