John McKinney, Jr.

John Wesley McKinney, Jr., 71 went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 29, 2021. He was a native of Caswell County and the son of the late John “J.W.” Wesley McKinney, Sr. and Neoma Mae Wilson McKinney. He was the husband of 51 years to Dorothy “Dot” Hill McKinney who survives.

Wesley was a tobacco farmer and carpenter most of his adult life. He was a member of Baynes Baptist Church and the Southern Caswell Ruritan for many years.  He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family and especially his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” McKinney of the home; daughter, Heather McKinney Jones of Burlington; son, Jamie McKinney and wife, Tonya of Burlington; adopted son, Jamie Gunn and wife, Mitzi of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Martina Bryner and husband, Brandon, Jonathan “Jon B” Boggs, Emma “Cry Baby1” Jones, Wes McKinney, Hanna “Cry Baby 2” McKinney and Wesley Gunn; great grandchildren, Brantley Bryner and Raelynn Bryner; sisters, Carol Hagood and husband, Clifton and Cathy Taylor and husband, Paull both of Burlington; brothers, Ira McKinney and wife, Hope and Darrell McKinney and wife, Martha both of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael McKinney.

The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held 3:00pm Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Baynes Baptist Church by Rev. Darrell Massey. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends form 1:00-2:45pm at the church prior to the service and other times at the home.
