John Mitchell Landphair, 73, of Burlington, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022.
John was born in Strykersville, New York on September 11, 1949 to Kermit Kreutter Landphair and Martha Wheeler Landphair. After a car accident in his twenties he became paralyzed and faced it head on, overcoming this challenge. He recovered and joined the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served for 20 years. Following his retirement, he pursued a career as an educator with the Virginia Public School System. After teaching Special Needs students, Computer classes and other roles, not ready to leave the workforce he enjoyed substitute teaching, which he did for another 10 years. Finally he got to start his dream job of as he would say, “being a Professional Grandpa”. Whether playing outside with Caleb or sitting and holding Cody, his love of his grandsons was evident every moment he was with them. He also loved to travel and was known to plan the most efficient ride roller coaster route at Busch Gardens. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years Suzann Landphair and sisters, Lois Gail Landphair and Gloria Beckwith.
John is survived by his beloved daughter, Jana Osborne and husband Jonathan of Burlington; his two best buddies, grandsons, Caleb Osborne and Cody Osborne; and siblings, Harry Landphair and wife Kathleen of Strykersville, NY, Arlene Strait and husband Gary of Arcade, NY and Katherine Palmateer and husband Kile of Holland, NY.
A celebration of John’s life will be held October 21, 2022 at 4:30pm at Java Village Congregational Church in Java Village, NY.
