John Jernigan, Jr.

John Jernigan, Jr. 79, of 108 Apple St. went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 20, 2005 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Margaret Hendrix Jernigan and the son of the late John and Sally Elizabeth Massingill Jernigan. John was a native of Johnson Co., a retired textile worker and a member of Gibsonville Christian Church where he had served as the Sunday School Superintendent, a former Deacon and Trustee. He served in the US Navy during WW II and was a member of The American Legion Post 0357 for 43 years. Survivors include his wife of the home, sons; Richard Jernigan and his wife Alice, John Kenneth Jernigan all of Gibsonville, grandchildren; Kevin Michael Jernigan, Ruth Nicole Jernigan, great grandchildren; Dianna Brown, Tommy Brown, sisters; Lois May and her husband Clarence of Elon, Cartha Stephenson of Smithfield, NC, brothers; Hugh Lee Jernigan and and his wife Ann of Everett, WA, Lloyd Jernigan and his wife Maria of Frostproof, FL, Bobby John Jernigan of Smithfield and Donald Ray Jernigan and his wife Kathy of Smithfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son William Harold Jernigan, a brother Warren G. Jernigan, sisters; Rosalyn Jernigan, Ruby Tart, Myrtle Brown and Geraldene Lamm. The funeral will be held 2:00 PM Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Alan Kent. Interment will follow in Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. and at other times at the home. Condolences may be sent to the family at lowefh@bellsouth.net.
