John Harris, Jr.

Mr. John E. Harris, Jr., age 72, of Oakdale Ct., passed away suddenly in an accident on Monday, June 17, 2013. Born in Person County, NC he was the son of the late John Elmer Harris, Sr. and the late Margaret Wilkins Harris and was married for over 52 years to Mrs. Sylvia Bryant Harris, who survives. John was part owner and operator of H & J Management. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Hospice of Alamance-Caswell and attended Beacon Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Melanie Nichols of Gibsonville and Jan Baker and her husband, Henry, of Garner; a son, John David Harris and his wife, Karen, of Burlington; five grandchildren, Jacob Baker, John Baker, Erin Nichols, Daniel Nichols and Grayson Harris; two sisters, Gail Funk of Durham and Dianne Perry of Kure Beach; and a brother, Walter Harris of Greensboro. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Martin Harris. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Beacon Baptist Church by Rev. Greg Barkman. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 1:45 PM Wednesday at the church prior to the funeral service and other times at the residence.
