Mr. John Edward Ham, age 69, of 638 Huntingdon St., passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Hospice Home of Alamance after a four and a half year battle with the rare lung disease, Interstitial Fibrosis. Born in Marion, Indiana, he was a 12th generation American and the son of the late Richard and Elizabeth Ham and was married for over 35 years to Mrs. Sandie Ham, who survives. John was a member of St. Mark's Church was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired as an Industrial Engineer from Engineered Controls International in Elon, NC in 2006 after 32 years of service. He was a former Boy Scouts of America Scoutmaster of Troop 19 of Shiloh Presbyterian Church and was awarded the BSA Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow, the BSA Wood Badge, the BSA Alamance District Award of Merit and a BSA Doctor of Commissioner Science. Mr. Ham is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Jenna Harris and her husband, Jamie, of Youngsville, NC; a son, Jason Ham of Burlington; a grandson, Landon Ham of Burlington; a brother, Charlie Horton and his wife, Linda, of Winchester, KY; and two nephews, Brandon Horton and his wife, Stacie, of Winchester, KY and David Horton of Lexington, KY. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ben Bishop. The family will receive friends following the service.
