John Gilmer Gerner, 71, of 5822 Carmen Rd., died Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at his home after a sudden illness. A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late James Monroe Gerner and the late Lahla Andrews Gerner. He was retired after many years as a service station attendant and was a member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ. John is survived by two daughters, Robin Gerner of the home, and Susie Gerner-Simpson and her husband, Tommy, of Greensboro; a son, Jack Gerner and his companion, Michelle White, of Gibsonville; four grandchildren, Kyle Gerner, Allison Gerner, Kaitlyn Jones, and Ashlea Simpson; four sisters, Nola Woodard, Daisy Greeson, Mary Susan Allison, and Margaret Plummer; two brothers, George Gerner and Connie Gerner; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth Greeson; and two brothers, James Thomas Tom Gerner and Charlie Gerner. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 24, 2005 at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ by the Dr. Walter Patten. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
