John David Thompson

John David Thompson, age 80, died in his home on June 27, 2023.  He was a 1960 graduate of Elon High School, and he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Math and Physics from Catawba University.

David returned to Alamance County to teach Math and Physics classes at Western Alamance High School and while there married Mary Ethridge in 1968.  After teaching for several years, he found a passion and a life-long career in land surveying culminating in decades of impact with Landmark Surveying.  Mr. Thompson was always interested and involved in events and organizations that supported building community across Alamance County.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, their sons, Mark (wife Ann) of Virginia, and Wyatt (wife Bess) of South Carolina, and five grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters, niece and nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Grace and A.G. Thompson.  A private event for family and friends is planned for July 22nd.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his life can donate in his name to St. Jude Children's Hospital and Samaritan's Purse.
