John Junior Chambers, 99, of Burlington, NC, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 26, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilcie Chemis and Etta Whitt Chambers and was the husband of 76 years to the late Nellie Copley Chambers, who died in 2021.
John retired after 43 years with Western Electric. He was a Platoon Sergeant serving in the US Army during World War Two. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. John was an avid hunter and Duke Women’s and Men’s Basketball fan. He was a Bee Keeper and devoted to his family and friends.
John leaves behind his four children, Hal Chambers (Theresa) of Cullman, Alabama; Deb Stewart of Burlington, NC; Stan Chambers (Pam) of Kernersville, NC; and Rod Chambers (Rachel) of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Grey Rogers (Kristin), Alex Rogers, Brad Chambers (Jolie) and Joanna Knowles (Zack) and three great grandchildren; his sister, Ann Abernathy of Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, his sisters, Rena Winburn, Irene Mooney and Ethel Aiken and his brother, Mac Chambers.
The family would like to thank the Native American Angels caregivers for allowing their dad to remain in his home.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 11:00am at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park by Rev. Dave McKeithen. The family will receive friends from 10-10:45am on Thursday prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
