Mr. Joel "Joe" Ray Scoggins, 52, a resident of Burlington died Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell after several months of declining health. Joe was born January 25, 1957 in Burlington, a son of Tommy D. and Barbara Englebright Scoggins. He was a graduate of Cummings High School and attended Louisburg College. He was employed with Scoggins Mfg. Inc. and Teague Auction Co. Joe was of the Christian faith. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Timothy Scoggins. Surviving are his mother, Barbara E. Scoggins of the home; his father, Tommy Scoggins and wife Becky of Mebane; two sisters, Amy Dawn Scoggins of Burlington, Pamela S. Mooney of Summerfield; three brothers, Michael Lee Scoggins and wife Annie of Haw River, William Sidney "Sid" Scoggins and wife Caryn of Denver, Tommy Gene Scoggins of Burlington and twelve nieces and nephews. . Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Alamance Memorial Park Cemetery conducted by Larry Hughes, a lifelong friend. Mr. Scoggins will remain at Lowe Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at ARMC Cancer Center and the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell for the wonderful care they provided.
