Joe Herbert Jones, 79, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Ashton Place in McLeansville. Mr. Jones was born December 12, 1930 in Alamance County to the late Albert Onie and Nettie Ross Jones. Joe was retired from North State Chevrolet with over 50 years of service; was a member of McLeansville Baptist Church; a member of the Hillsborough Moose Lodge; and the National Guard. Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Simpson and her husband Pat of McLeansville; two sons, Allen Jones of McLeansville, and Ronnie Jones and his wife, Brenda of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Christy Armstrong, Allyson Yelverton, Drew Simpson, Dustin Simpson, and Britt Akers; four great grandchildren, Carson and Cooper Armstrong, Caleb Akers, and Nicholas Yelverton; three sisters, Mary Lee Pettigrew of Gibsonville, Evelyn Burnette of Mt. Pleasant, and Betty Overman of Whitsett; and a special friend, Lorena Talley. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gene Jones, Sam Jones, Bobby Jones, and Fred Jones; and a sister, Katheline Martindale. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2010 at the McLeansville Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Lemons and his son-in-law, Rev. Pat Simpson officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of his daughter, Kathy 1621 Corner House Rd. McLeansville.
