Joe Preston Coleman, 83, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 16, 2021. He was born in Alamance County to the late “Tooter” and “Lizzie” Coleman and was married for 62 years to Susie Thompson Coleman who survives.
Joe was a was a self-employed carpenter. He was a faithful member of Harvest Baptist Church where he had served as an usher and was known as the “coffee man”. He previously served at Calvary Baptist Church as a deacon and bus ministry helper. Joe also enjoyed serving as a school crossing guard at Grove Park Elementary for several years. He was an avid Atlanta Braves and Nascar fan.
Joe is survived by his wife, Susie; daughters, Denice Coleman Halsey, Robin Coleman Loy (Craig); son, Joseph Todd Coleman (Carla); grandchildren, Amelia Eanes, Preston Loy, Joshua Coleman, Noah Coleman and Rachel Coleman; sisters, Sally Cook (Raymond), Sylvia Harrison, Donna Little and Kate Brummer. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Leonard Coleman.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Reverends Don Pegg, Dave Winstead and Greg Bouck with interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 5:30-7:30 PM at the funeral home.
The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Veronica Clark for taking such good care of Mr. Joe.
