Joanna Sutton Brown Thompson, 77, of Gibsonville, passed away on January 11, 2012, at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, surrounded by her family. Joanna, a native of Alamance County, was the daughter of the late Evella Booe and Carl Holt Sutton, Jr. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Ervin Summers and Gene Thompson. Survivors include her daughters, Sherri B. Vincent and husband Jack of McLeansville, Kerrii B. Anderson and husband, Douglas of Columbus, Ohio, sisters Martha S May and husband, Clarence of Gibsonville, Judy W Calloway and Bill of Wilmington, Donna S Moss of Burlington, and brother Robert H. Sutton of Burlington, grandchildren James Jay A. Chatmon II, Alexa M. Anderson, and Cameron Taff Anderson and the father of her children Allen M. Brown. She loved working as a bookkeeper and was last employed with Jennings M Bryan Insurance Agency of Burlington. She also enjoyed canning and freezing vegetables from the garden, sewing, and was an avid reader. She prided herself in providing tax preparation services for the community. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the Memorial Service.
