Joan Reynolds

ELON- Joan Moore Reynolds, 68 passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 at UNC Hospital as the result of a tragic automobile accident. She was the daughter of the late Reece Thomas and Edna Simpson Moore. She was the wife of 32 years to the late Jeffrey Lynn Reynolds.

Joan retired from Woodcraft Supply and was so much more than a homemaker. She was a1970 graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her daughters, Jennifer Robertson and husband, Joshua and Ashley Reynolds-Bowers and husband, Joseph; grandchildren, Alyssa Bowers, Ava Robertson, Diesel Robertson and Ethan Robertson; brothers, Jerry Moore and wife, Shirley and Ronnie Moore and wife, Gail; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special neighbors. She loved her animals, her big black steed, a Tennessee Walking Horse “Roxy”, “Donkeys”, “Elvis, the singing donkey” and “Eeyore, who is perpetually sad”; canine companions, “Abigail, the trusted babysitting dog and motherminder”, “Jack, the bad dog” and “Catherine, who just wants to sleep.”

“It is what it is but we will get through it” was a phrase our mother loved to say. An avid reader who was also known for her cooking and baking, her chocolate pies and her German Chocolate Cake, her woodworking and woodturning, her stained glass, her sewing, and a myriad of other beautiful crafty things, Joan was always busy and constantly learning new things.  If she didn’t know how to do it, she would figure it out before you could get there to help her with it.  A hater of painting walls and furniture (so much so that Jeff made her a sign that said “I hate painting”) Joan was pivotal in the building of the family home.  She laid the hardwood floors herself, she completed all the tilework, and completed all of the hated painting.  She was a Jill of all trades. A force to be reckoned with, she loved fiercely and mended broken hearts easily for her kids and grandkids. In recent years, Joan had become an advocate for rescuing and rehabilitating horses in need from bad situations.  Layla, Ginger, Alice, and Roxy will be forever in her debt for her lifesaving love and dedication to them.  She taught her children and grandchildren to cook and to be strong, to love beyond measure and to be grateful for everything you have.  When the accident happened, she was on her way to donate toys and shoes to Hospice so that families in need could have a good Christmas.  She was constantly giving of herself to help others with her time, her love, and her heart. She loved her daughters fiercely, describing Jennifer with her artistic nature and her talents with all things in the natural world and Ashley with her quick wit, kindness, and intelligence. Jennifer and Ashley credit their mom with the strength, kindness, and love that they have for everything.  They would not be who they are without her guidance.  As a gentle reminder, please review these common Joan quotes: “Are your doors locked?  Can you close the door tightly because we are not heating the neighborhood?  Are you eating and drinking enough?  Have you had enough water today? (Ashley)  Here have some more water Ashley, you have not had enough today, and do we need all these lights on? We are not an airport. And most importantly, I love you.”  Always, the “I love you.”

Ashley and Jennifer would like to remind you to cherish every moment with family and friends.  Hug them all a little tighter and tell them that you love them.

Due to Covid-19, Joan will be at the funeral home for those who wish to pay their respects on Sunday December 27, 2020 from 1 PM to 5 PM.  The funeral service will be private with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park.  The service will be available to view live on the funeral home website after 1Pm on Monday.

Memorials may be made to Authoracare Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington, NC 27215 or the Humane Society or Animal rescue of your choice.
