Jimmy Fred Combs, 52, of 2065 Royce Dr. passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the UNC Chapel Hill Hospital from complications from leukemia. Jimmy was born in Alamance County to the late Fred Gilmer and Iretta "Ret" Stanley Combs. He was a graduate of Walter Williams High School and a graduate from Elon University. Jimmy worked for over 30 years at the Burlington Recreation and Parks Department, serving the last 10 years as the Recreation Supervisor of Community Programs and the Developmentally Disabled. Jimmy was a faithful member of Hawfields Presbyterian Church where he was a drummer at the Saturday night service, was a former member of Burlington Boys Choir, and a member of the National Parks and Recreation Society, and was an avid Carolina Fan. Survivors include his wife Lisa Baldwin Combs of the home; a daughter, Amber Nichole Combs of Raleigh; sister, Debbie Combs Younger of Bennett; father and mother-in-law, Harold & Nancy Eagle of Burlington; sister& brother-in-law, Denane & Harold Owen of Burlington; a nephew, Mike Younger, and two nieces, Dr. Cristina Beck Chad and Constance Owen. Jimmy, Lisa, and Amber's special friends, Mike and Denise Mills, Chris and Kathryn Mills, and Brent Mills, have loved and supported them through the joyous times and the hard times. A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2009 at the Hawfields Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall with the Rev. Ray Mims officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
