Jimmy H. Campbell went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 12, surrounded by his family. Jimmy was married and survived by the love of his life, Catherine Barts Campbell, for 61 years.
He is survived by his children, Anthony and Kimberly; daughter in-law Emily, and son in-law Will; three grandchildren- Madison, Addie, and Brycen, playful grand dog Bentley, and his loving, youngest sister, Cathy; many nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends. He was dearly loved by Catherine’s sisters, Margaret, Mary, and Frances. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Henry Campbell and Verona Edwards Campbell; his brothers Dewey, and Donnie; sisters Marie, Geneva, and Laverne.
Jimmy was retired from commercial heating and air conditioning. He served his country honorably during the Vietnam War era and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. Jimmy was a member of Oakview Church where he served as a Deacon. He was an avid UNC Basketball fan and loved watching the Tar Heels.
The Campbell family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Moses H. Cone Hospital for their care and support.
A service to celebrate Jimmy’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Oakview Church by Pastor Todd Harris. The burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the US Army. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 prior to the service at the church and other times at his home.
