Jessie McKinney

April 12, 1934 — March 10, 2019

Jessie McKinney

Jessie Joyce McKinney, 84 of Burlington departed this life peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at ARMC surrounded by family and love. She was the daughter of Paul and Anna Joyce. Jessie was born in Caswell County on April 12,1934. She graduated from Anderson High School, retired from Croscill Factory Store and previously worked for Rolane.

Jessie was married to Benjamin “Sylvester” McKinney for 65 years who passed April 17, 2018. They were always a team and she missed him immensely. She was the loving mother of daughter Sherrie Waddell (Terry) of Gibsonville and son Greg McKinney of Burlington. She could always keep a secret unless it was your Christmas present and she had to spill the beans. She was “Mimi” to Alex Waddell of Dallas TX, Cortlandt Waddell of Winston Salem, Benjamin and Ashley McKinney of Mebane. She was the kind of Grandmother who taught you to make pancakes and let you use your creativity with canned biscuits; when you made a mess, you were having fun. She and PawPaw attended as many of your events as possible.

Jessie was blessed with 9 siblings and loved to gather with them and their children. Jessie is survived by sisters, Nancy Ribelin (William), Judy Neese, Linda Thomasson (Richard); brothers, James Joyce and George Joyce (Carol Jean); brothers-in-law, Sammy McKinney and David Cale; sister-in-law, Debbie Joyce; former daughter-in-law, Amanda McKinney; close family friend, Mike Montgomery and many nieces and nephews.

Jessie was preceded in death by sister, Doris Wheeler and brothers, Gene Joyce, Robert Joyce and Mike Joyce. Jessie loved Buttercups, Pink Roses, Cardinals and Hummingbirds. It was fitting that she left this world in spring… Farewell our love.

A memorial service will be held 2:00PM on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Darrell Massey. Visitation will be held from 12:45 to 1:45 prior to the service. Burial will be held at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

At other times the family will receive friends at the residence.  Our gratitude to the staff at The Village of Brookwood, Edgewood Place and Alamance Regional Medical Center. Memorials may be sent to the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
