Jessie Laughlin

Mrs. Jessie Schoolfield "Grandma" Laughlin, 91, of 1543 Little John Lane East died Monday, October 27, 2008 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several weeks of failing health. Born in Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel O. Schoolfield and the late Emma Carter Schoolfield and was married for over 61 years to the late William Hal Laughlin, who died in 1999. A career homemaker, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gibsonville, contributed to Meals on Wheels and was a charter member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Alamance County, but her favorite activities were cooking and caring for her family and friends. Mrs. Laughlin is survived by her daughter, Beryl Peeler and her husband, Bobby, of Burlington; a granddaughter, Tara Davis and her husband, Chad, a great grandson, Connor Dove; and her special caregiver, Mertis Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons, Devon Laughlin and Wayne Laughlin; great granddaughter, Briley Peeler; four sisters, Mozelle Shepherd, Frances Wicker, Etta Farrington and Grace Collins; and four brothers, Glenn, Clarence, Everett and Herman Schoolfield. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 1, 2008 at First Baptist Church of Gibsonville by the Rev. Brian Ayers and the Rev. John Shields. Interment will be at Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church following the service Saturday and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you visit an old friend or send cards and gifts to the nurses and staff of 1-C at ARMC, that showed so much kindness and caring to Jessie and her family or make memorials to First Baptist Church of Gibsonville, 221 Piedmont Ave., Gibsonville, NC 27249. A special thanks goes to Dr. Ernest Eason and the staff of Alamance Health Care, especially to their chaplin, Ebbie Murray. Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
