Jerry Allen Lewis, 83, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 16, 2018, surrounded by family, at the Hospice Home. A native of Guilford County, he was born July 20, 1934 to the late Kenneth B. and Alice Troxler Lewis, and was the loving husband of 63 years to Ardenia Wyrick Lewis of the home.
To his daughter, Vonda Lewis Richey of Charlotte, NC, and his son, David Allen Lewis of Gibsonville, NC, he was affectionately known as "Daddy". He was "Papaw" to his four grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Weekley of Fredericksburg, VA; Amanda (James) Williams of Suwanee, GA; AJ and Jacob Lewis of Gibsonville, NC, as well as his five great grandchildren.
He is also survived by a sister, Margie (John) Coble of Burlington, NC; a brother, Donnie (Linda) Lewis of Elon, NC; a sister-in-law, Hazel Lewis of Graham, NC, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers Charlie Lewis, William Lewis, Robert Holt Lewis, and sister Clarice Lewis Somers.
Jerry lived his dream as a lifetime farmer, and was also employed by Western Electric for 15 years, and then Lorillard Tobacco Company for 35 years in the Maintenance Department. He always enjoyed the monthly gatherings with the Maintenance Dept. retirees.
He was a longtime member of Hope River (formerly Brown Wesleyan Church) where he was a choir member and served on the Board for 25 years. He also served as Building Chairman for their last church built.
Jerry will always be remembered by his family and friends for his great sense of humor and honesty.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 2 PM at Hope River Church, 4355 High Rock Road, Gibsonville, NC by Rev. Larry Pope and David Grinnell. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Lowe Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral.
