Gibsonville - Jerry Richard Higgins, 82, passed away peacefully at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. He was born in Winder, Georgia on October 14, 1939 to the late Russell Cleveland Higgins and Arizona Robertson Higgins, and was married for 61 years to the late Polly Sue Clapp Higgins who died in October 2021.
Jerry retired from Western Electric and J.A. King and Co. in Whitsett. Jerry loved God, loved his family and always put them ahead of himself. He was a loving husband and father and was a faithful caregiver to his wife Polly during the last years of her life. Jerry really enjoyed watching Dr. Charles Stanley and learning from his sermons. He played lots of baseball growing up and softball once he moved to North Carolina. He enjoyed working in the yard and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Jerry was a soft-spoken man with a huge heart. He enjoyed eating weekly with his J.A. King co-workers. Special thanks go out to Bobby Sharpe and Dave Crawford for their very meaningful visits with Jerry during the last month.
He is survived by his son, Donald Higgins; a daughter, Abbie Higgins Thomas and husband, David; his poodle named “Weezie”; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Clapp; special nieces and nephews, Frank Barrow, Ginger L. Dahlquist and husband Kent, Bobi Barrow, Barbie Barrow, Brenda L. Bernt and husband Andy, Bob Moseley, Pam Moore and husband Ricky; and many great nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Polly; his parents; a sister, Dorothy H. Moseley; a brother, Hartwell Jackson Higgins; brothers-in-law, Bob Barrow, Rob Moseley and Jimmy Clapp; and a nephew, Edward Clapp.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Monday, June 20, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Scott London with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm Monday prior to the service.
