Elon – Jerry Dee Gerringer, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 23, 2024 at ARMC surrounded by his family. He was born on November 19,1943 in Alamance County to the late James Freeman and Annie Marie Sutton Gerringer. He was the husband of 52 years to Zane Gibson Gerringer who survives.
Jerry retired after over 42 years with Lorillard Tobacco and was a farmer most of his life, raising livestock and hay. He graduated from A-O High School and served in the US Army National Guard. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church and attended Westside Fellowship. Jerry was an avid Nascar fan, participating in go-kart racing for many years. He enjoyed dirt track and late model races and recently went to Eldora for the World 100 with his son. Jerry and his wife traveled to the Daytona 500 annually. He was a UNC Tar Heel fan and loved traveling, camping and wintering in Florida with his wife. Jerry was a proud “PaPa” and devoted to his family.
Survivors include his wife, Zane Gibson Gerringer of the home; son, Drew Gerringer and wife, Shea of Elon; 3 grandchildren, Rhett Freeman Gerringer, Jace Harrison Gerringer and Sierra Elizabeth Coll; nephew, Brad Eugene Benfield and wife, Tracy of Elon and a great niece, London Marie Benfield of Elon and his God son, David Davis of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia Ann Gerringer Lewis.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Westside Fellowship by Rev. Jacob Danieley and Rev. Mike Mitchener and burial will follow at Bethlehem Chrisitan Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7PM on Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at son’s home.
