McLeansville – Jeral Max Sunderland, Sr., 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Ashton Place Health and Rehab. He was born in Hobart, Oklahoma on May 29, 1938 to the late Floyd Richard and Rose Mae Turmon Sunderland and was the husband of the late Sally Wynn Sunderland.

   Jeral was a US Air Force Veteran and retired as an engineer from Sprint after a lifelong career in communications.  Better known as “Petemen Dodo”, he traveled frequently and was known by many as an adventurer and explorer.  His hobbies were Chevy cars and trucks and building furniture which he passed on to his son, Jerry and grandson, Coby. He enjoyed playing games, dancing and singing funny limericks. His favorite food was Mexican. Most of all, Jeral loved spending time with his family.  He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.

   He is survived by his sons, Jeral M. “Jerry” Sunderland, Jr. of Bassett, VA, Kenneth Basquez and wife Linda of Charleston, TN; daughters, Lynn McAfee of Okeechobee, FL, Susan Morris of Ontario, NY and Terri Walsh of Whitsett, NC; Twenty-two grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sisters, Patricia Sunderland Pitts, Billie Sunderland Dutra and grandson, Jamie Morris.
