Mrs. Jeanette Meeks Conklin, 85, of Burlington passed away at her residence on February 22, 2024. A native of Alamance County she was raised in the Glen Raven Mill Village and was the daughter of the late Morris and Lucille Smith Meeks and the wife of the late Richard “Pedro” Conklin.
Jeanette worked at the hosiery mill in Ossipee and later was the owner operator of Conklin’s Swimming Pool with her husband until retirement.
Mrs. Conklin loved taking care of her family and home. She always had a hot home cooked meal waiting for them when they arrived. She also enjoyed working in her yard, sewing, and traveling to attend the NASCAR races with her family. Although a quiet and soft spoken lady, she possessed a fierce determination that carried her through battling cancer twice, beating it both times, as well as a faith that brought her through the loss of two adult children and her husband.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Lee Conklin; a daughter, Jeanne Gates Shields; siblings, Barbra Apple, Bill Meeks, Dorothy Justice, Midge Poole, Tommy Meeks, Chris Meeks and George Meeks Bobby Meeks and infant Betty Meeks.
She is survived by a son, Timothy Richard Conklin of Burlington; a grandson, Richard Andrew “Andy” Conklin and wife, Becky, of Elon; great grandsons, JB Conklin, Justin Conklin and Brent Conklin; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Conklin of Elon; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
Jeanette’s humble spirit led her to desire things being kept simple, so in keeping with that she requested no formal services. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her devoted sister-in-law and dear friend, Wanda Way, who cared for her for several years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AuthoraCare Collective Hospice of Burlington, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215
