Haw River - Jean Hill Smith, 70, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Rockingham County on July 11, 1947 to the late Roy Daniel Hill, Jr. and Annie Bell Tate Hill and was the wife of 47 years to Thomas Wayne Smith of the home.
Jean was a longtime member of Altamahaw Baptist Church and was a substitute teacher for the Alamance County Schools for many years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and was a fantastic cook. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Smith; daughter, Kelly S. Wilson and husband Clint; sons, Matthew W. Smith, Nicholas D. Smith; granddaughter, Chelsea N. Wilson; grandson, Hunter C. Wilson; sisters, Rebecca H. White, Nancy H. Penland and husband Duain, Joyce H. Moore and husband Tom and four nieces and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Wilbur Ward.
A funeral service to celebrate Jean's life will be held 11:00AM on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Walter Jones. The family will receive friends from 5-7PM on Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the daughter's home.
