Jean Patterson Mann

Jean Patterson Mann, age 92, of Burlington, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Cone Health Alamance Regional. A native of Burlington, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Hobart and Nina Patterson and wife of the late Charles "Chuck" Mann.

Survivors include her sons, Randy Mann and wife Robin of Saugerties, New York, Larry Mann and wife Teresa of Supply, North Carolina; grandchildren Jonathan Mann and wife Ruolin, Timothy Mann and wife Laura, Cara Britain and husband Kyle, Christopher Mann and wife Katie, Alex Padron and wife Ziyu, and Scott Padron; great grandchildren, Evelyn Mann, Owen Mann and Westley Britain. Also, a host of incredibly caring nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Chuck, her sister Ann Livingston, brothers Dr. George Patterson and John Patterson.

After graduating high school from EM Holt, she attended Guilford College. From there she graduated from West Liberty State College in the Summer of 1954 as a Register Dental Hygienist. Jean was one of the first dental hygienist in North Carolina - license #64!

It is hard to write about Jean without writing about "her Chuck". Jean met her forever love on a blind date while she was studying at West Liberty State College. In July of 1954 they eloped and spent their first year together in West Virginia. For 67 years Chuck and Jean built a beautiful and loving life together in Burlington raising their two sons.

They enjoyed many trips together including Hawaii, a Mississippi River Boat cruise, and many bus tours. They loved visiting their grandchildren in Vermont, New York and Florida. Together they created lasting memories at White and Kerr Lakes with friends and family as well as with the Cox Camper taking excursions all over North Carolina.

Jean loved sharing her delicious homemade baked goods and her many specialty southern dishes like macaroni and cheese at annual gatherings or a regular Sunday dinner. Weather permitting, one could find Jean in her yard tending to her roses, picking persimmons, gathering sticks or raking the leaves. Regardless where you found her, you were always welcomed with her warm smile.

Jean touched the lives of those who knew her and will be missed by all of those who loved her.
