Jean Haynes

Jean Virginia (nee Heiberg) Haynes passed away from cancer on November 23, 2015 in Burlington, NC at age 89. Jean was born on December 26, 1925 in Seattle, Washington, and grew up in Wyoming and Montana. Both her parents came from families that homesteaded. The last to go of 7 siblings, she worked for many years as an admin secretary at Byron Junior HS in Shaker Heights, OH after splendidly raising her 5 kids. Jean lived in the Philippines after WW2, and later in Chicago. After many glorious years of golfing retirement in Sanford NC, she spent her last decade happily residing at Twin Lakes in Burlington. She was a voracious reader and a talented painter (she liked to say she was older than Grandma Moses when she started) - she'd always been crafty, including decoupage. She loved to converse and tell stories with her Danish/German wit, write letters prolifically in her lovely script, give gifts, and play bridge (and any game with her grandkids). Beloved wife (62 years) of Thomas E. Haynes (deceased, 2011); daughter of Fred and Emma Heiberg (deceased); cherished and devoted mother of Charles E. Haynes (Wilma, of Minneapolis), Christine H. Winsberg (Dale, of Cleveland), Carolyn Haynes (deceased, 2007, an Alaska homesteader), Thomas R. Haynes (of Apex NC), Michael G. Haynes (Becky, of Chicago); grandmother of Molly Hovan (Eric), Sarah Dukes (Ryan), Alex Haynes, Ethan Haynes, Margo Girgen (Ryan), Steven Haynes, Kyle Haynes, Madison Haynes and Leah Winsberg. Great-grandmother of Parker Kirsch and Zeke Hovan. Ex-mother-in-law of Andrea Haynes. Dear friend to many. The family is deeply appreciative of the support and friendship of Twin Lakes residents (Doris, Jack, Bobb, Bob, Cecilia, Yvonne, Hulda and others), and of the Coble SNF staff (Melody, Norma, Judy et al). The memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 28th at 11:00am in Burlington, NC at Twin Lakes May-Foley Chapel followed by a reception at the Terrace Restaurant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
