Jean Gilmer Billings

Jean Gilmer Billings, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Whitestone: A Masonic and Eastern Star Community. She was born on March 1, 1934 in Whitesburg, Hamblen County, TN to the late William Graham Gilmer and Essie Pat Harris Gilmer.

Jean was well known in the retail industry from working at Margaret’s, The Treasure House, and she retired from Belk Department Store. She was a member of the Burlington Shrine Club Shrinettes and a lifelong member of Brookwood Church, where she loved her church family. Jean enjoyed shopping, drinking wine, cooking, traveling to various locations but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her two sons, Clyde Alvin Billings, Jr. and wife Fran, and William Michael Billings, Sr. and wife Jolie; her grandchildren that she adored, Christine Billings Hoblit and husband Bob, Lindsay Billings, Mike Billings, Jr. and wife April, Taylor Billings Vanlandingham and husband Juston; great grandchildren, Audrey and Lucy Billings, Hayden Kivett, Bobby Hoblit, Harley, Jasper and Lillian Vanlandingham; and former daughter-in-law, Amanda Isley Billings. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Lillie Beatrice Gilmer, grandchildren Clyde Alvin III and Sarah Elizabeth Billings, her former husband and friend, Clyde A. Billings, Sr. and special friend D.R. Stewart.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff at Whitestone: A Masonic and Eastern Star Community and AuthoraCare for all their compassion and loving care.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00am Monday, June 5, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Garry Gates with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4pm to 6pm Sunday at the funeral home.
