Elon, NC J. B. "Jake" Suttles, age 88 formerly of Mauldin SC went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg, SC. He was born in Oconee County, SC and was the son of the late Fred and Viola Crump Suttles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Hatcher Suttles who died in 1981. Jake was a truck Driver for 42 years with Associated Transport before retirement. He was a member of Rock Creek United Methodist Church in Snow Camp. Jake was a US Army veteran serving in WW II attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was a loving and devoted Christian father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his sons, Billy Gene Suttles of Macon, Ga, Michael Steven Suttles of Greenville, SC and Roy Luther Suttles of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; sister, Sara Dickson of Westminster, SC and brothers, Jack L. Suttles of Greenville, SC and Furman D. Suttles of Macon, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife, son, Jerry Wayne Suttles, parents and sisters, Ruby Estes and Betty Jane Vinson; brothers, Fred and Ray Suttles and an infant brother, Billy Gene Suttles. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Jerry Hall and the family will receive friends immediately following the service. Services were held on January the 4th at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home Chapel in Spartanburg, SC. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
