Janie McKinney

Elon - Janie Olivia Hall McKinney, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.  A native of Caswell County, she was born September 29, 1928 to the late James Gaither and Nealie Fannie Barts Hall and was the wife of 59 years to the late Marvin Brooks McKinney.

Janie was a longtime member of the Burlington Assembly of God and co-founded the Golden Touch Ministries.  She retired from Southern Bell where she served as a Union Lead and telephone operator. In High School, Janie was captain and all-conference player of the girls’ basketball team.  She was an avid gardener, a gifted cook and enjoyed crafts of all kinds.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Janie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Beal and husband Jimmy of Elon; grandchildren, Joshua M. Ball, Jonathan B. Ball and wife Cilicia (or as Janie called her, “Shaleash”); Robin Gregory and husband Dennis; great grandchildren, Alex and Morgan Gregory and Natalie, Brody and Olivia Ball and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; stepmother, Hattie Hall; sisters, Lula Bell Sexton, Leona Buchanan, Lorene Hair and a brother, N.L. Hall.

A private graveside service to celebrate Janie’s life will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery by Pastor Howard Thompson. She will be available for viewing from 11am-5pm on Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.
