Janie Moss Harmon, 92, of the Hamlet in Elon, passed away on August 18th following a brief illness.
A native of Lexington, Virginia, she was the daughter of Alonza and Lutie Hart Ayres, both deceased. She was the youngest of eight children. She is survived by one brother, Harold W. Ayres of Williamsburg, Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she treasured highly.
Janie relocated to this area in 1960 as the spouse of James B. Moss Jr. following his transfer here with Western Electric. After his passing, she was married to William R. Harmon, also deceased, as is one stepson. Other survivors include daughter, Bonita Jane Moss, son James Randall Moss, both of Burlington and two grandsons, Jordan and Jason Moss of Longview, Texas, and one stepdaughter.
She was employed for many years as an executive secretary within the insurance industry. She was a long-term, active member of Grove Park Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. Janie also volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at Alamance Regional Medical Center for 13 years.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home for visitation on Saturday, August 21, from 9:45 am – 10:45am. Cryptside services will follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel at 11:00 am by Rev. Marc Sanders and Dr. Gene Hunsinger, Officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grove Park Baptist Church, 108 Trail One, Burlington, NC 27215, or to the Salvation Army of Alamance County, P O Box 1238, Burlington, NC 27216.
