Janice Edmonds Smith, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on August 19, 2023. She was born on June 22, 1947, in Alamance County, and was the daughter of Lewis H. Edmonds and Marion Caviness Edmonds.
Janice had a fulfilling career as a homemaker and babysitter, dedicating her time and attention to taking care of children. She was known for being nurturing and kind-hearted, providing a safe and loving environment for those under her care. She enjoyed spending time at the beach, cooking and was particularly known for her biscuits. Her family took every opportunity to enjoy her delicious meals.
Janice is survived by her husband of 58 years, David Lee Smith Sr.; her son David Lee Smith Jr. (Pamela); daughters Tammy Palmer (Gary); Kathy Medders (Hank); and grandchildren, John Palmer (Jessica), Tanya Hill (Dustin), Hannah Palmer and her boyfriend Brandon, Lacy Flynn and her boyfriend Drew, Curtis Hatch (Bridgette), Alicia Medders, Justin Medders, Brittany Smith, Jennifer Smith (Dalton), Elizabeth Smith; great-grandchildren, Haliegh Shelley (Tyler), Cody Palmer, Kaitlyn Hill, Taylor Hill, James Flynn, Luke Hatch, Conner Hatch, Mason Medders, Owen Chandler, and Atreya Bushnell. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Janice was also blessed with nine brothers and sisters. Gail Fowler (Jerry), Sylvia Neighbors, Mike Edmonds (Kathy), Kenny Edmonds (Debbie), Cindy Horneday, Terry Baker (Burnice), David Wayne, Wendy Scott (Jeff) and Marty Martin (Roy).
A service to celebrate Janice's life will be held at 2:00 PM on August 23, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Sammy Ballard with the burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of her son, David Jr., at 300 South Eighth Street in Mebane.
